September around Lake Texoma is one of those in-between seasons we love. Summer isn’t quite over (and Oklahoma certainly isn’t ready to give up the heat just yet!), but fall is starting to make its appearance with cooler evenings, local festivals, live music, farmers markets, and plenty of reasons to get out and explore.
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway, spending some time at the lake, or staying with us here at RiverView, September has plenty happening on both sides of the Red River. From downtown Denison to Durant—and right here in southern Oklahoma—we’ve rounded up some of the events and activities worth adding to your calendar this month.
Here’s what’s happening around Texoma this September!
Sip, Shop & Stroll in Downtown Denison – September 5
September kicks off with a full day of fun in Downtown Denison on Saturday, September 5. Start your morning at the Downtown Denison Farmers Market, where you’ll find locally grown, baked, made and handcrafted goods beginning at 9 a.m.
Then, raise a glass to a little local history at the annual T.V. Munson Wine Walk. Visitors can stroll through downtown while sampling wines from North Texas wineries and learning more about Denison’s own T.V. Munson and his fascinating place in wine history.
And while you’re downtown, say bonjour to Bonjour, Denison!, which brings a little French-inspired flair to the day’s festivities with local artists and makers, food, shopping and entertainment.
With plenty happening within walking distance, it’s an easy excuse to spend the day exploring Downtown Denison. Shop a little, eat a little, sip a little and enjoy one of Texoma’s favorite historic downtowns.
Catch the Rhythm in Downtown Denison – September 12
Downtown Denison turns up the volume on Saturday, September 12, for the Rhythm & Rails Music Festival. This all-day celebration brings live music to the heart of downtown, with the main stage planned for the newly renovated Heritage Park and additional performances throughout the downtown district.
Spend the day listening to live music, exploring Main Street, popping into local shops and restaurants, and enjoying the atmosphere of one of Denison’s signature fall events.
And if you’d like to make a full day of it, the Downtown Denison Farmers Market also opens at 9 a.m. that morning so you can start with a little local shopping before the music gets underway.
Thursday Nights Come Alive in Durant – September 17 & 24
One of Durant’s favorite fall traditions returns in September with the Discover Durant Fall Concert Series at Market Square in historic Downtown Durant. These free, family-friendly outdoor concerts make for an easy Thursday night outing, with food and drinks available for purchase and downtown restaurants and shops nearby.
The 2026 series kicks off September 17 with country favorite Deana Carter, followed by Shelby Stone on September 24. Gates open at 6 p.m., with music beginning at 7 p.m. Just bring your lawn chairs and settle in for an evening of live music under the Oklahoma sky.
The concert series continues for two more Thursday nights in October, so if you can’t make the September shows, stay tuned. We’ll have more fall fun to share next month!
Big Names Take the Stage in Durant
If your idea of a fall getaway includes a great show, The Grand Theater at Choctaw Casino & Resort–Durant also brings some big names to Texoma this September.
September’s lineup includes Twisted Sister featuring Sebastian Bach on lead vocals with Gene Simmons on September 12, Lenny Kravitz on September 18, Russell Dickerson with Elizabeth Nichols on September 19, and comedian Matt Rife on September 25 and 26.
Tickets and availability vary by show, so be sure to check Choctaw’s official entertainment calendar before making plans.
Slow Down & Enjoy September in Texoma
Not every September adventure needs a ticket or a spot on the calendar. As summer begins to wind down, it’s also a great time to slow the pace and enjoy some of the things that make the Texoma area special.
The Downtown Denison Farmers Market continues every Saturday in September, beginning at 9 a.m. Shop locally grown produce, baked goods, meats, honey, handmade goods and more, then stick around to explore the shops, restaurants and murals throughout historic Downtown Denison.
If you’d rather spend the day outside, Eisenhower State Park offers miles of hiking and biking trails along the rocky shores of Lake Texoma, plus opportunities for fishing, swimming, boating, picnicking and simply taking in the lake views.
And fall gets an official welcome on Saturday, September 26, when Eisenhower State Park hosts its Pumpkin Grove Festival. A fun way to close out a month that’s just starting to hint at the cooler days ahead.
